Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I have/had a 110VAC electric pump for pumping engine oil from a 55 gallon drum through a meter to a fairly long hose for putting oil in my tractors/combine etc. It worked well. I forget the brand name of the pump but I got it at a John Deere dealer.
The last time my oil supplier brought out a 55 gallon drum, he and his son moved the pump from the empty barrel to the one they just brought out.
Unfortunately they had a problem when attaching the pump/meter to the new barrel . It would not pump when I tried it. The motor would run but nothing came out. I removed the pump and found that the PVC draw pipe had fallen off and fell inside the barrel where it is today. I can see the friction fit coupling where the PVC pipe is supposed to fit is cracked. I don't know if I can get parts for that pump or not.
Anyway, on my next trip to Harbor Freight, I noticed they had an air model. It contained a regulator and a pop off valve and would screw into a 55 gallon barrel. I screwed it in and set my Milwaukee inflator to 10 psi as recommended. I'm not certain if I got a damaged or weakened barrel but the top bulged out. Obviously the barrel could not stand the added pressure. Oil did come out but the barrel will not be able to be reused. With my experience I would avoid the air style.
As far as your original question about the other styles being suitable for oil, I would think so but don't know for certain.
