NW IL | We ran a 12r planter and 8r head for 2 seasons before going to a 24r planter.
It wasn't too bad, but I did use row markers and manually steer a few hilly spots in fields where the GPS wouldn't factor planter drift.
If I would have liked the planter more and not picked up acres I don't think I would have felt the need to match planter and combine. It worked well enough for our situation.
I do some custom combining for a guy that plants with a 6r on rolling ground. Most of the time he's about spot on and there's no issues.
If needed you can always move up to the 8r head for the first year and see how bad you're pulling hair out that fall, then move up planter sizes the following year if needed. Especially if your planter is set up real nice to begin with. | |
