Southeast Washington | The dirt and abrasive soil play a lot into combine wear. With the cost of combines going up many small to mid size farmers here are looking for alternatives. Some JD combine mechanics have found an area in the Midwest where used 3,000 hour corn combines are in far better condition than the 1,000 hour wheat combines. They are shipped out and Hillco levelers are put in them so quite an investment to get one ready for our area.
When the wheat combines get to the 500-750 hour range here you are going to have replaced a lot of the internals in them by then. They compare our wheat almost as hard on them as rice. In the better years wheat yield climb up towards 150 bpa on dryland and abrasive volcanic ash soil eat through cheap chrome and even extended wear parts don't last forever. | |
