Southern MN | Had a hydraulic leak that apparently blew a hole into the side of my plastic fuel tank. The tank has HDPE printed on it.
The hole is about 3/4 inch wide and 1/8 inch tall. The tank sits under the cab, getting access to it is a real pain, so the fix needs to work and be permanent, don't want to do it twice.
Options
1. Try plastic welding for the first time in my life. I would get a Harbor Freight plastic welder and go at it. Cost is $80-$100 for welder and rods, but I would have a new tool and maybe use it again.
2. Buy something like a large flange oil plug with an oring. Drill out the hole, insert oil plug with nut and washer on other side. It would be ugly to look at, but it's in a place nearly impossible to see.
Plastic welding seems like the professional fix, but I'm worried about leaking or cracking.
