I’m sure there’s plenty going on that we didn’t see. To answer some of your questions? Well any type of energy generation takes facilities and that means using energy to build those. After looking at a fair number of facilities that are completed I would say most could be farmed again with proper decommissioning. Will they be as productive as they were immediately before construction , No. As technology improves who knows if in 40 years they are decommissioned or whether they will be renegotiating leases for extended terms. The infrastructure is in place, I suspect many of these will still be producing power beyond the original terms. And yes we are close to a peaker plant that has access to three high voltage lines and has unused excess transmission capacity. Energy is also planning on mothballing several coal fired plants. We have two 3000 acre solar farms in the works here locally. Also Panasonic is building a large battery plant nearby to supply EV cars. In our instance, 40 years from now open space will be scarce in our county and decommissioned solar farm real estate should be very valuable property. We have 600,000 plus in our rapidly growing county.
Any idea what lease rates are in Illinois? Here they would exceed our crops gross on a per acre basis.
Im guessing they exceed even a 250 bushel corn crop there.
