edgerton ks. | Saw these at European farm show last November. We toured an experiment station in Italy that were using
Voltaic mats to cover high density apple plantings. Reduced water usage by about 1/3 rd and they were selling electricity. Apple production actually improved under the covering and solar tarps also protected fruit from hail. These so called tarps were flexible and approximately the thickness of a heavy place mat you would use at home.
Lots of small fruit such as raspberries benefit from partial shade . These didn’t cover the entire field just a portion directly over the trees and shrubs. Still lots of diffused light underneath these strips. Lots of potential as they improve the technology.
