North of London | Other threads have touched on how things have changed through recent years like hydro becoming available.
Got me thinking about my grandmother and what she saw for changes in her lifetime.
She was born in 1881 in a log cabin at what is the back of a 100 acre farm.
At the back because that had a creek that was used by the settlers to travel to urban areas and especially a grain mill where her father would take a bag of wheat to be ground to bring back flour for baking.
No hydro, no running water.
Had to stay in the cabin for a few days as a child because a black bear had been seen outside.
She then saw the road allowance slowly cleared, levelled with logs in wet places and straightened as stumps and big rocks were gradually moved.
Horse drawn vehicles on the road and then after being married cars.
Hydro
planes
Faster cars and a gravel road for them to travel on
Snow plows to keep the roads open all winter
although I do not think she ever used a computer she was still around to know about them and of course also got to watch man walk on the moon.
Not sure I will ever see as much change as she did.
I did not mention 2 World Wars and the Spanish flu epidemic too
