Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80

Mike_N - 11/22/2023 12:12 Here's another twist on the double u-trough idea that I've been tossing around to run two trucks with one driver: Park truck #1 over the double u-trough, open the traps and start dumping. U-trough and leg have some automation that will stop everything when the truck is empty. Might want some safety features that shut everything down for other reasons too if needed. Driver then hops in truck #2 and heads off to the field for a load. When he comes back, he'd have to hop out of truck #2, pull truck #1 ahead, position truck #2 and start the dumping process, and hop into truck #1 and head to the field. So your truck driver would be getting a bit of exercise and losing some time positioning trucks--that's probably the biggest drawback I see. On the other hand the capital cost is going to be vastly lower than a double pit and reworking your scale. Note that this is just in the idea phase right now, I have not actually tried to do any of this in the real world yet. -Mike

Now, if a guy took your idea, but had room to park 2 trucks, side by side, with U-troughs long enough to go underneath BOTH trucks, that would remove the driver having to jump "in and out" of trucks multiple times (if you only had one "dump location")

Basically, 2 dump locations, side-by-side; just longer U-troughs
