Shoe repair guy said most shoe companies have followed China and switched to a cheaper, less durable material for the bottom of the shoe where everything is stitched together. The shoes aren't repairable because the cheap material doesn't hold up, ie won't hold stitches. And the shoe repair guy's customers won't be happy if the shoes fall apart in a year. By the time most consumers realized that those American made work boots were made to last longer, it was too late as the corporate bigwigs had already made the decision to outsource the entire process to China including switching to lower grade materials. I guess for a nation of people who walk around wearing flip flops all the time it doesn't matter.
