RR Valley, ND; MN native | Dad said they got power in '44. The place had been wired for a year before it was hooked up.
He said it was magical to do the chores in the barn and not have to carry a kerosene lantern. I don't think they got a milker for a couple of years after the power went in.
This past summer I removed the last of the old wiring from the barn (its in bad shape, will need to be demo'd). It had had power in there until a couple of years ago. The wires were so brittle they snapped when moved.
They did not get indoor plumbing in the house until about '55 though. | |
