Old poles lasted quite a while but not as long as newer treated ones.
Where we live hydro was installed as soon as available around 1930 and a 60 amp service was put on side of house
Barn and machine shed were fed from there with an extra set of wires between house and barn so yard light could be switched off and on from either building.
After we bought the farm we put in a new hydro service with transformer on pole in middle of yard and lines to each building with 100 amp service in each and 200 in barn.
That service is still in use and sound some 55 years later but when we cut wires off house from original service that had been there for around 40 years the pole in middle of yard with wires on 3 sides and guy wire on 4th side fell over.
It was just standing there because wires kept it upright and removing 'support' from one side let it fall
