Denmark | my boss in Cal. entered the shop, where I was busy, to tell me President Kennedy had been murdered. It left me as shocked as a young man can get.
I really thought the world of Pres. Kennedy, and that the country was gifted to have him as a leader. Maybe because of his handling of the Cuba crisis, maybe because of the things he stated in his Berlin speech, maybe because he committed the US to put a man on the moon at a time when the country lacked behind the Russians, and maybe because he told the nation to "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". And maybe because he was such a young President that also I, just a young foreigner temporarely in the country, could relate to.
That day and situation 60 years ago is still what stands sharpest in my mind.
And no. 2 is watching an American 8´th Air Force B24 Liberator bomber, 3 engines shot out and parachutes in the air behind it, crashing right by our neighbor village Easter Day 1944. While on a mission to help us regain our freedom.
