North Central US | 1946 here for when REC came, but there were WindChargers before that, with the big bank of glass 32? volt batteries in the basement. Pumps and lights.
When REC came, the first, and only for a while, was a trouble light in the two room house. Hung from the ceiling and moved from room to room as needed.
It wasn't until the 1960s and 1970s did everything go fully electric, on the place we're on anyways. Grandma on a different place talks about how the barn had heat and electric pumps for the cows and horses to have flowing water in the winter before the house had lights, in the 1930s.
