NE ND | Our farm about 1949. My father was 5-6 years old and remembers it well. He told the story at my grandfather's funeral. He said when the electricians were nearly done Grandpa was in the barn milking cows by lantern as it was already dark. He said when the electricians walked over to the switch and turned on the lights Grandpa slowly got up, walked over, and turned off the lantern. That lantern hung on a nail as long as I can remember. My father said at Grandpa's funeral he never saw him light that lantern ever again. He figured he was so proud to have the electricity he was never going back. | |
