Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | Got the bright idea to find a shoe repair shop to have the heels replaced on an expensive pair of lace-up work boots ( I have long but narrow feet, almost impossible to find a correctly sized work boot for me anymore, finally found these, great boots but very expensive, but the heels have worn down terribly, which screws up the orthotics which I also have to use). Previous boots, by the time the heels wear down, the leather uppers are shot anyway, so usually just go buy another new pair of boots.
So I check on the internet, find two shops listed in our regional shopping city of Sioux City, Iowa. (population 87,000). Head out this morning, got to have the fun experience of driving around downtown Sioux City, one way streets and all, finally pull up in front of place-empty store front. Put Plan B into action, drive across town, got to drive thru parts of the city I have always heard about, but never had a reason to go thru (Morningside, Transit Plaza area). Arrive at second store, at least they were kind enough to leave a note on the front door: Sorry, retired.
Head to shoe store where I purchased the boots, nice lady says no repair shops in Sioux City anymore, gave me the names and addresses of two places in Sioux Falls. We will be up there in a couple of weeks, will try our luck there.
Just another example of our throw-away society, I guess.
