Subject: RE: 60# of N question?

Hillsboro, AL

Phil,

I understand the reason for the early N and the decision making process for the rates.  I just question a rate of 60#.  We normal put our top rates in the 40-50# range.  Do you have trials to show yield increases at 60#?  I just believe that 60 is more than the plant can use at that point.  The extra N is then left for runoff and leaching.  Agriculture is under heavy pressure over water quality and that pressure will increase.  We are going to have to prove our practices.  Do you have data supporting a 60# rate on wheat that small?  I would very much like to see it.  I have worked with Wheat Tech in the past.

We will make our first application of N on wheat and canola next week.
