Over hydration can be as bad as under hydration. It can cause electrolytes to be excessively flushed out through urination.
I didn't suffer any ill effects from that, other than peeing a lot. Looking back on it, I suspect it wasn't the greatest idea to drink quite that much. But a single quart of water during each milking would be a decent target for me again, I think.
Regardless, it had to have been better than what my mom's brother did as a teenager. My dad hired him to milk in the afternoons, and the guy would show up with a two-liter of pop. The whole two-liter would be gone by the end of milking! Day after day. He has a serious beer belly now, forty years later. |
