Kwch 12 news just ran a story on the difference in gasoline prices in Wichita Ks. the reason? IMHO. It's ethanol which is significantly cheaper than the alternative octane options. Jump Start (retailer) which offers higher ethanol blends like E 30 from its stores.. as well as Quick Trip which also offers ethanol are leading the price competition.. in West Wichita. With High Crude Prices but falling corn prices.. ethanol plants are grinding away full bore.. the US gulf ethanol price according to US Grains council last week was $2.083 vs the weighted average aromatic BTX (non ethanol) was $3.465.. so higher costs as well as carcinogenic. All gasoline needs octane and as much as a third of your gasoline is octane. Some suppliers use more ethanol.. others do not above the required 10% federal standard. This price disparity is showing as a result.
