cropsey, il 61731 | I get the race for the largest combine especially if just takes a larger engine and rearranging some parts - not reinventing the wheel. I wonder about the market for such machines though. In cars, Japan went upscale to make more money since it doesn't cost that much more to make an acura than an accord. I suppose the cost to make an upscale combine is the same way. Larger rotors is an incremental steel cost. The engine costs more, but not double. I would guess the profit margin is substantial as the class number increases.
Most of the large farmers around me rarely have anything more than a class 8 unless they got a deal on a class 9. I could see the guy that owns 2000 acres with family that left the farm, getting a huge machine so he (or she) can get done timely with minimal help. Maybe not a great business decision but at some point you spend your money on something. | |
