Subject: Exactly.. dryland soybeans epic failed here.. my double crop just sneeked across

kb ag - 11/9/2023 14:44

The usual drier areas know that 2/3 of the bean's life means virtually nothing and the last 1/3(or 1/4?) means absolutely everything. Someday everyone will get up to speed with all the knowledge sharing. Won't be without more 'you don't know my area!!' refrains, but it is what it is. I sure hope it is wetter than heck early for all the 250 aph croud so they can whine about something that might actually affect them come harvest.

Lot of truth there.. There are at least 5 quarter sections of 40 bushel looking dryland soybeans fields which failed around me.. and we're not harvested.

One.. a no tiller.. is still standing.. last I was by there.. "why hasn't he harvested this?"  So I snooped.. man.. nothing.. and I mean NOTHING filled.. lots of pods.. with zip for soybeans in em.. ZERO!!
You
its gonna be hard to explain this.. but we got monsoonal rains during our wheat harvest.. blew up out by Todd.. came across to us.. died on about the county line.. or just east of us.. this year.. you have to go West to see good dryland crops.. Dodge City.. Golly looks like Mt Hope..  Mt Hope.. Golly looks like Dodge City..

So it's opposite Ville this year in Kansas..

We didn't get the last of our half section of soybeans in until 7/19/23.. lol insurance play as our state date 7/1/23 was the official plant date.

Again 24 out of 50 days it rained..

See pics below..

No chance the last planted makes it.. None.. guess what.. August had about a week of 106.. a week of cool.. another week of 106.. the dryland soybeans DIED..

Shallow rooted.. blast furnace conditions.. adios.

Ours on water.. got pushed.. we watered some.. no need to bother cause too late anyway.. but just enough to hold on.. I was running 24/7 through the heat..

Guess what?  They made 38.

How?

Grace of God.

Better looking dryland fields not far away.. unharvested.

Edit for spelling.. yes last 2 pics are full season irrigated for show.. they did 60.  Don't have the d/c.. unless.. I'll have to search later.. gotta go.
