I have neighbors that have lost a half a foot of soil in the short time I have been around. Then when the top soil is gone they complain about how unlucky they are to have to farm clay subsoil and harvest 160 bushel corn in a good year. It's madness. I started no tilling beans 3 years ago and will be never go back to working cornstalks in the fall. I still disc ahead of corn planting but that is it.
