SC Wisconsin | Dad takes the knives out of the chopper for corn, but puts a handful in for beans to help keep any longer stems moving out the tail end. It does add a level of fineness to them. His combine is an axial flow so it tears them up pretty well to begin with. Ive bought long stringy bales out of an older gleaned before and they were a pain to bed and clean but they were still nice as bedding. I tried to use them sparingly though, I would put in 2 to 1 stalk bales when using them and it cleaned out ok. I would think if you had a deep pack of just long stem bean straw it would be about like cleaning out a pack made of grass hay which wouldn't be fun | |
