coast of Maine | Buy chains with the angle mark on tooth top surface, buy the correct diameter files, have an old vise at cut site or on your tailgate, they also make simple vise like clamps you can slip into a saw kerf slot.Keep your file even with the earths plane, and use your common sense,,you will have a nice saw experience.Do not use more pressure down than towards tooth. Many places sell chains that are home owner approved. They suck but are safer for unskilled.Filing rakers off is common on woods guys here but not advised for occasional users, lowering them a tad works though.Skip tooth chains require 1/2 the filing,,only good for big HP saws though.More weight/pressure per tooth means they cut better at times. | |
