Sioux County, NWIA | What we lose in fines raking we more than make up for in leaves that get raked into the windrow. Plus, the baler will lose about as much fines picking up a non raked combine windrow anyway. Once the combine rows are raked, the baler loses very little. I have noticed that most times we get more bales if we rake. A far as bale density, yea you might get a heavier bale not raking, but oh well. Run more pressure on raked windrows. And my sanity saved by not having to weave constantly is priceless. Most combines drop a very baler unfriendly windrow. Claas and New Holland are the only machines that can drop a windrow I would consider not raking. Anymore one of the reasons I rake is to get the bottom of the row dried out as so many beans get threshed with green wet stems. The bottom of the row doesn’t dry out very fast until the row is disturbed, then they dry out very quickly. | |
