Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | Personally.... I think with winter temperatures coming on, you're not going to get much breakdown of corn residue with the addition of some nitrogen. Some nitrogen now certainly won't hurt, but I doubt you're going to see significant corn residue breakdown from the application.
On our farm.... we are quite pleased with the job our VT tool (We use a Great Plains Turbo Max.) does with corn residue incorporation and breakdown. Course, we're not dealing with 280 bushel residue. More likely dealing with 225 to 250 bushel residue. Maybe there would be a significant difference, but I doubt it.
