Windom, MN | Farmers having 2 combines is becoming more common here. 1 for beans and 1 for corn.
There's big losses in yield on beans too not getting them timely/too dry, so waiting on custom could cost you too.
I guess if I was big enough and had the help, I would have the "good" combine on the corn side and pick when the beans are too tough in the morning and at night or when the moisture on the beans are too low until the wet bin is full. The "older high hour" combine would be on the beans cutting them when it's fit and moisture is ideal. I believe this is how the 2 machine guys do it around here anyway.
I hire on the corn side. Neighbor has a big combine and I have a small dryer but 12,000 wet bin. Will fill the wet bin, let dryer work, and they work on theirs, which pretty much all borders mine. It's pretty timely and works well for me. I have a combine still to do soybeans. | |
