Black dirt has been consistently excellent here, lighter timber soils wildly variable and in some cases downright dismal.  As expected except that some hailed-on farms got hurt a lot worse than what I hoped for at the time it occurred.  Guess that one added stress was just too much to recover from with never having a good soaker in July.   Every neighbor I've talked to in that storm track has been pretty glum about those fields too.
