What about the 60 series version? Where they a better pump?

Mechanical 855's all use a PT pump (short for pressure time). They could be setup with several different governor configurations. 8960's are a good old fashioned PT pump with a mechanical variable speed governor. Same type of setup used by Steiger, Versatile, Big Bud, Case, etc.

As I understand it, the 8970 used a PT pump that had an electronically controlled governor. If it has problems, you just toss it in the scrap bin, call up Premco, give them your CPL and have them send you a PT pump with a variable speed governor set at 450 HP (or however many you want) and away you go.
