Plow pans are largely a result of working soils too damp. If you plow on the dry side, so that you have soil shatter instead of soil smear, you will avoid these issues. Nothing wrong with an offset disc. They are a great tool when used correctly in the right conditions by someone that knows what they are doing. Unfortunately a lot of that knowledge has now been lost to the younger generation.

So what are the conditions? I know wet causes issues. The disc can cause too smooth a seedbed if windy…
Few of my neighbors use a disc much.
