northern MN | I read this thread frequently, there is not a lot of talk about wheat here.
Currently I am sitting on about 60% of my 23 wheat and have none sold for 24 to date. However, I was fortunate to have the other 40% sold last fall at pretty good prices, so I feel good about that. Looking at charts and seeking outside advise I am finding it difficult to find a reason to hang on to what I have left. More than likely I will carry some into the summer months just in case, but I thought I'd bring it up here to hear others opinions. Wheat is rotation crop for most of you, myself too. I raise it to keep my ground healthy enough to maximize my sugar beet yields, I frequently look at wheat and contemplate if I should just leave the ground idle for a year to reduce fertilizer costs... But, I have to put something back into the soil so I plant wheat and agonize over the lack of profitability.
At todays prices, wheat (here) is losing about $100/ac with average production but fretting over this doesn't make what's in the bin more valuable... So, why shouldn't I sell it now??? | |
