New shop costs have gotten a little out of hand. I think you need to weigh the cost against your current repair costs. Can you take some things to the dealership to have worked on? Can you just trade and get some newer machinery? Build some cold storage and save the extra money to get better machinery. Having a nice big concreate pad outside allows a lot of things to be worked on. I also don’t think you need to have multiple big projects going at once unless you have more then one mechanic. Plan your project order your parts and get it done and move it out. Projects should not last all winter. I know as a farmer you have to be able to fix stuff but I always say I’m a farmer first. When I was in my 20’s being a mechanic was fun now in my 50’s I would sooner farm not be wrenching.

Newer machinery ain’t cheap. Parts aren’t like they used to be. Who knows when you get what you need now days.

I’ve looked at updating a few pieces of equipment and can build a heck of a shop for what trading a couple tractors cost , if your gonna do any kind of updating at all
