Northwest Iowa | Did 90-110 acres of beans per day starting last week of September/early October. had about 3 total days, I'm going to guess, of wet weather to shut us down. A ton of people started corn October 16th and got shut down this thursday because of wet weather and than the snow, we been doing 70-100 acres of corn a day with an 8 row head so nothing to be ashamed at in our opinion. We do have all later corn (with fungicide), more yield generally, and its been 19-22 so have been drying, been taking a little longer. Like I said not to worried about getting the corn done but if you don't live here you have no idea how important stalk bales and manure is. Some guys have taken some time to do that and put the combining on hold a bit so thats why there is some left. It is also October 29th so its not like we are 2009 where we have had 4 working days in October but the wetter, cooler forecast is not ideal for all that work after the crop is out. Not as much tillage done in the fall anymore but still important for those that do. That's some of the reasons why guys aren't done. No offense taken but yeah sometimes with livestock we don't get going in the field until a little later in the morning and still have some chores at night. | |
