| How many openers on it? If it’s a 30’ with 48 openers you have enough tractor unless hills are steep and numerous or soils are clay and tacky. If it’s a 42’ it’s not enough tractor unless speeds are kept around and below 5mph.
The 1850 openers aren’t nearly as good as the 1890’s which are slightly better than the 1860’s. All three plant the same if they’re in good condition, it’s just that the later two will last longer before needing a rebuild or repaired. The tapered bearings of the opener disc and the bearings in the closing wheel of the 1850 being the main concerns for me. You’ll need a 5 gallon bucket full of the closing wheel bearings. Not to talk you out of it, but personally I’d give at least double for an 1890 with the same wear as an 1850. | |
