coast of Maine | If you have no shop ,IMO thats the first direction to head. Here its common to build using floating slab.I read here often elsewhere it a pole building base.Pour the slab.Build your building with out all the necessities of a perfect shop.Skip the foam in the floor .Skip the house wrap.Put in a ceiling. Here we are 2 ft on center for all builds due to environmental loads.Skip the insulation to start.Get one decent door .Buy a good radiant heater to utilize space in the cold.A Val6 heater is say 3,500$.This will cook your butt at 20 below. Then you have a place to make/save you big dollars with a very small budget. All the other must haves can be added later..sure you "should" do it to start but thats not the real world with 9% money.Spray foam down the road, sheath interior down the road, loose fill attic later.Lights all around add later. If it was a pole structure you could pour the floor in say 1/2 of structure.A cheap curtain would allow some heat retention in your work area.I am not a fan of equipment storage hooked to the shop,,,when you have a fire its all gone and you dont get it all back ever.Starting out though do what you need to do..happy building. | |
