S Illinois | I know you can’t grow it that far north but if one wants “heavy” corn, 110-18 day Pioneer white corn will almost guaranteed be the highest TW corn one has. It’s normal to never to see that below 60 or 61 and just as likely to see 63. But expect yield to be off 5-10% compared to the good yellow varieties.
Edit: That’s to say i completely agree with your genetics playing the biggest role in TW observations. Also why ear size can be so deceiving.
