Southern MN | Was expecting around APH to 10 bushel better on corn, final scale tickets not tabulated but ended 20-40 bushels over adjusted APH depending on the field. We had a few fields planted early that just didn’t look good all summer, and one that had stand issues with a late Pioneer corn, still happy with them but they were just enough lower to keep us from breaking last years record corn. Soybeans very happy also, not a record for us but first year back in 30” rows in our tests probably cost us 2 bushels.
Friends north of us disappointed in yields, missed a few rains. Other friends in Iowa actually yielding a little less. Had what I thought was a nice rain event in maybe early June actually probably cost them yield. Other friends just south of us harvesting record average yields.
Another year of getting dumber. Just seems like the right rain or lack of rain at the right time makes more of a yield difference than it should. The Lamberton U of MN water needs tables are definitely out of date, at least the ones I have found.
We were dry. Have one wetland we have planted a couple times in the past 25 years. Still bone dry after 4.5” of rain mid October. Hoping to get through this rain event with a couple inches or less as we did not push tillage as much as we should have earlier, waiting on some manure and corn on corn decisions. | |
