We broadcast cereal rye and triticale between Christmas and New Years last year, grew fine. I would fertilize it in the spring once you confirm it survived (which would surprise me if it didn't). It's not cheap, but I would use Elbon if I was wanting to bale it in the spring. It blew our generic cheap rye away last year with early growth.
