Latimer, Iowa (north central) | It’s really kinda a relaxing job. Nobody really bugs you. This manure is pretty well composted so pretty light and fluffy. Spreader is going about 60 foot but I have my gps and spread width at 50 foot. Typically go about 5.5 mph at 3 ton. 4.5 mph at 5 ton. The raven adjusts the apron speed to get right rate. This spreader is called a H220. Hauling about 28,000 lbs of this fluffy stuff. Have had 40,000 of heavy stuff on.
Downfall of the Tebbe is load height but telescoping wheel loader works very nice.
Our local golf course has 7 acres in the corner of one of my fields. Split out by an old railroad grade. It’s farmed by donations from the community. Just did my donation of 21 ton of litter spread. Only chased off one golfer today!!
Edit to add. I used to pull nitrate samples from leaves before sidedress. Found them to be variable depending on how weather has been and how it affects availability of manure. Now I just do 50-60 units unless really trying to push yield on a good field. What dates do you usually apply?
