Nw Iowa | The trouble with collectibles is that they earn nothing while you own them. It is like comparing gold to land. Gold is fine as long as gold goes up more than inflation but no dividends. Land throws out a dividend every year and generally inflates over time. The tractor that just sits there is even worse than gold because you have overhead of owning it such as insurance, maintenance, upkeep, fuel and etc to own tractor for non production. While I agree tractor is better than a new pickup, the tractor will not earn any money other than the market for that particular tractor while the pickup may or may not be used for things that make money such as a contractor or to support a on going farm operation so even though pickup depreciates greatly it may contribute to bottom line( that all said a 90000 dollar pickup is a terrible investment). ess my post and previous posts on this subject are just that this a rich man’s hobby buying 150000 tractors because odds of tractor making any kind of long term return are very cloudy. | |
