To the OP, I believe you are referring to the deal Massey Harris made during the war to conserve resources. They convinced the government of the day to set aside enough material to build a fleet of combines to form the brigade. The promise was made that these machines would begin harvest in the deep south and work north doing custom work. Overall it would make the most efficient use of precious materials otherwise needed in the war effort. Someone on here would know if this kind of harvest route was done before this but it also helped Massey get some production going. From what I read each machine had a goal of somewhere around a thousand acres but far surpassed that( maybe close to 2000?) I have to try to look up that story again. Needless to say it was a big success (probably because it was pre-def....lol).
