ecmn | Total digestible assay, tells you what you really have. Midwest test says I have 9P and 60K on a field. Total essay says I have over 600 lbs available P and 1200 K.
Haney test and plant testing we are learning can be a great N management tool. And building foliar programs tools.
Haney can get you a look at your life in the soil.
CO2 burst test, then in time is it getting better
A shovel is a great tool, compaction probe also. And you can use then all the time for free.
Measure compaction and see if you can reduce it. Can't have healthy soil if it can't breath.
Dig soil up, how many worms in a cubic foot, what does the soil look like and smell like.
Erosion, are you reducing it?
Water infiltration rate, see where you are starting and have you improved it?
Things take time,
P responds very well to soil health, you can move P on paper with applying very little product but adding health probably faster than you can improve it by over applying.
K, you need to do your own trials to see where your crop and soil responses are. Some soils you can dump hundreds of extra lbs per acre and never see a response on paper.
John breker from UND and Richard Mulvaney have good talks about K. | |
