I cringe every time I see a farmer wanting to upgrade his truck for farm use.
You are going to spend $40,000 for a truck. Probably have another ( at least) $20,00 trailer to pull. License , insurance and a man.
So You are going to lose $3,000 a year interest, spend another $3,000 on fuel. Probably $2,000 on plates and insurance. Figure the man, conservatively at $5,000. Depreciation at 10% is $6,000
$15,000 would probably hire it done, so you are in the hole before you start, plus still have to cover repairs!

A Paccar with a cat doesnt exactly depreciate though as long as you dont do anything too stupid when you buy it. :)

I agree with your sentiment if guys are looking at these new plastic fleet lease return trucks, they are going to be a depreciating money pit until someone throws it away, but buying a well made pre-emissions truck with a manual and taking care of it isnt quite the losing proposition IMO.

If you run slightly illegal its alot cheaper than your list too. :)
