Lancaster PA | We got $320 each for Holstein bull calves at New Holland Sales stables last week. I know beef crosses are higher. We have been hesitant to breed our milk cows to beef breeds. We finally have "enough" heifers for replacements and I think that's going to make me more money in the long run. I would rather be able to cull more milk cows to make room for fresh heifers than sell calves and hang on to cows that i shouldn't. I think it's a good move for some farms, it just depends on your situation. I have heard over amish dairy farmers in our area breeding everything to Angus bulls and buying all their springing heifers | |
