Subject: RE: What is this?

NW Ohio,near Findlay
Thanks, for all the posts, I knew it had something to do with hay but still don't know exactly how it worked. I know how hay trolleys work, pulled many loads up in the barn with the F-12 and H. We had two barns with different type of trolley. The one I would pull the sling with hay up and it would trip, pull rope would get loose, the hay bundle would roll to either side of mow. There had to be a system built into the trolley that could be pulled to select which way it would roll, I do not remember my Dad or Grandpa doing that.
The other barn had a different system, I would drive tractor to a selected spot and stop, a locking system would hold hay at that height. I would then back up over the pull rope on ground, attach a small rope to tractor and pull the hay bundle to selected area until Grandpa would yell stop.
Back to the pictures I posted, nothing rolled or moved on this track. Those hooks are set and bolt clamps them to track. The hook will open up but kind of locked in place. If this track was bolted to rafters, would be hard to hook something to it. Maybe a rope was fed thru those hooks to pull the trolley sideways in the barn, I just don't know.
I will keep those items from the barn and do more research on exactly how they were used. The trolleys in the barns I was referring too, yes they are still there, sure had good memories of that era, running buckrack, 31 Chevy.
