cropsey, il 61731 | Maybe some folks don't understand the market here? To me it's like an elevator - they cover their sales with options/futures, but they can not have a speculative position. Insurance companies would be no different. They are not speculating or "playing the market". Reducing risk is expensive, but its necessary and I'm sure those costs are baked into the premium.
However, I thought the crop insurance game was just like health insurance in a big company. A company like blue cross just administers the program and the company basically self insures. So swap a crop insurance company for blue cross and the government instead of the company. | |
