I know I have a section of track that I salvaged from a barn we tore down.
Used to have the board that was nailed on the rafters at the peak with the hardware on it that the 'hooks' attached to.
I think the reason for that system of suspending it was to take the stress out of the whole system as the bundles of hay rolled down the track.
The bundles rose and hit the top with a bump and then surged down the track as the release let the car suspended on the track move from the spot that held it in position to allow the hay fork to descend to the load.
There was also lots of bounce when the bundle of hay was released by tripping the hay fork. | |
