What you are suggesting would be full out nationalized crop insurance. I've been very out spoken that I feel the government involvement in crop insurance is likely going to have major unknown consequences, the last thing I think we need is to have them a bigger part. If they are going to be involved the first thing that needs to go is optional units. The governments only concern should be sustainability of the business, not field by field. Eliminating optional units not only would greatly reduce fraud it also has impacts on added acreage that would slow down the consolidation.


I don't get how that would have any effect on consolidation. Most large farms already use enterprise units because they have the mentality of not trying to get insurance premium back, but rather having a farm wide safety net in case of disaster at a much reduced cost. Also don't understand how enterprise makes it less appealing to add more acreage. You get to take your proven yields to the new piece and it gets absorbed into the safety of having large acreage to fund any individual field hiccups.
