| So as a after thought a clear hose from the tank to pump would have confirmed the air leak in the suction fittings
40 years ago cummins made a fuel sight fitting

used it this spring on a neighbors tractor that ended up having crap plugging the fitting coming out of the fuel tank
a pressure gauge teed into the supply line going into the high pressure pump helps us with an excavator issue
