East Central Nebraska
Sorry for your loss. Also talk to other farmers around your area. Are there yields up too? What is their population. August weather is very crucial on bean yields in my neck of the woods. I'd say probably more to that than anything else. I probably overplant, but I put down 160K on 15 in spacings. 140K on 30" when using the planter on 30". I feel I was one rain short of 60-65 bushel beans. We were so dry early on with zero subsoil moisture, then record moisture in July and then back to drought. 100 degree days the middle of August hurt and if I could have caught a good inch of rain then, we'd been probably record bean crop. Just 20 miles south of me they did, but they didn't get the July rains like we did. So now I am combining neck high beans that are loaded with empty pods and some seeds about the size of milo seed. Look like 65 coming in the combine and only about 40-45 in the tank. And a lot of wear and tear on the combine. We need a frost.
