 Amherst WI | I had a conversation with another farmer who talked to some soybean expert that was at a field day. The expert claimed that most of the issues soybeans have can be traced back to the bad roots.
He mentioned the low pods where a sign the bean plant struggled at one time (from poor roots) and since it couldn't put on anymore top growth it added bottom pods. These bottom pods (flowers) also encouraged white mold growth since when the soil splashes these flowers were closest to the soil surface and most likely where the white mold infection started, if they had been an inch or two higher they might not have been infected.
Not sure if he was right or not but it was something to think about that seemed like it made sense. | |
